Youth Anger Management

Behavioral Intervention Group (B.I.G.)

B.I.G. is a service offered by the Dane County Department of Human Services (DCDHS) through the Neighborhood Intervention Program (N.I.P.). It is designed for male and female middle and high school age students who are struggling with anger management issues. Presently the groups meet in five week intervals on Wednesday evenings at the N.I.P. office, located at 1227 N. Sherman Ave. in Madison, Wisconsin. Parents are required to attend the first group with their children. Referrals come primarily from DCDHS social workers, school district staff members, or from the municipal court as an alternative to filing formal delinquency charges. It is expected that youth appropriate for B.I.G. do not have severe mental health problems, nor should they be in need of more lengthy and intensive behavioral interventions for their anger issues.

There is no cost for this service and transportation assistance is available.

This program is provided jointly by Community Partnerships and Dane County Department of Human Services within the Children Come First Program. The primary goal of the Children Come First Program is to provide comprehensive case management and wraparound services in an effort to avoid institutional placements for children with a severe emotional disturbance.
